Week Three.

Black and White Studio Shoot.

Another concept that really appealed to me was black and white photography (obviously this is just an editing feature) but I found some examples on another blog and I really liked the different compositional elements, which are also present in these photos.

In Photo1 I really like the cropped, close up of the model, how it fills up the page just right and how she is making eye contact with the camera.

In Photo2 I really like how her body is positioned and how a slight s-curve is apparent. I also like how she isn’t paying any attention to the camera and is looking away.

Photo3 is a full body shot and the model is facing the camera straight on. However, it is photographed as a slight high angle shot, this captures the model strong facial features and accentuates her jaw line making her face stand out just as much as the rest of her body in this image and a sense of balance and focus is achieved because we can focus on all of the content within the image

Photo4 works well as an image because it is balanced. The main focus is the black dress which takes up half of the page. The models legs and head then each take up a quarter of the image. Because it is the model’s head (white) which takes up the first quarter of the page, the body (black) which takes up the next two quarters of the page which is then followed by the model’s legs (white) which take up the last quarter of the page, the image sequence is white, black, white and the proportions are all equal which add to the overall success of the image.

Photo5 I like because it includes the extra of the cigarette, the model still owns the photograph, yet the cigarette just adds some extra interest to the photo, just an added ‘effect’/feature. I also like how her body is positioned, once again, with a slight s-curve.
